CBCA Awards 2025
The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) proudly announces the 2025 CBCA Book of the Year Awards shortlist. 730 entries were assessed by 15 judges and showcase the incredible work of 36 books, representing 19 publishers, 33 writers and 25 illustrators.
Divided into six categories: Early Childhood, Younger Readers, Older Readers, Picture Book of the Year, New Illustrator and the Eve Pownall Award, the CBCA Book of the Year Awards are the most prestigious honour in children’s literature in Australia.
CBCA timeline of activities, programs and events for 2025:
- Tuesday, 25 March: CBCA Book of the Year Shortlist – The Notables list becomes a Shortlist of up to 36 finalists, a possible six for each of the six categories. cbca.org.au/awards
- Friday, 15 August: Children’s Book of the Year Award announcement and Sun Project Shadow Judging Book of the Year Winners – The 2025 Book of the Year Award Winners and Honours books as judged by industry experts will be announced alongside the selected Winners from Australia’s young Shadow Judges. - Saturday 16 August to Saturday, 23 August: The 80th Children’s Book Week – A week-long celebration of reading! cbca.org.au/childrens-book-week/
