Indigenous Literacy Day 2025

Indigenous Literacy Day (ILD) is an annual celebration of First Nations stories, cultures and languages created by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF).

On Wednesday 3 September, we’re celebrating with the theme Strength in our Stories: For Now & Future Generations with a free FILM and LIVESTREAM event from Sydney Opera House.

Indigenous Literacy Day FILM

Join us on an adventure through 3 remote Aboriginal Communities to learn about the diverse ways storytelling makes their Communities strong.

In this joyful FILM audiences will travel to:
– Ceduna & Koonibba in South Australia to learn from young author Mia Speed, celebrate Wirangu language, and make Bush Medicine on Country.

– Katherine & Binjari in the Northern Territory to meet student authors of Grinch det K’Taun Krok!, hear from Elders, and learn the creational Dreaming story of Katherine Gorge.

– Warakurna Community in Western Australia to go out on Country, learn about the seasons, and how Miss Daisy’s knowledge and stories are keeping Warakurna kids strong.

For more information including how to watch the film, go to Indigenous Literacy Foundation | Indigenous Literacy Day.
