‘Twas the night before Easter, the workshop was busy!
There were baskets to fill and eggs to make pretty.
There was so much to do for the Big Easter Quest.
And the Bunny herself she was, honestly stressed.
Tanya Hennessy’s bright picture book, Pink Easter, follows other books by this author with pink in the title.
In Pink Easter there are two types of text. The story is told in rhyming verse while in smaller print are the words of the different animals who have come to help the bunny in her time of stress.
A variety of colours are used for the background of the pages on which the story and illustrations by Sophie Kent appear. The illustrator, British but now based in Australia, is known for her playful characters and vibrant colours.
In fitting with the title of the book, when the volunteer helpers get underway, they decide to use the Easter Eggmaster machine hoping to create a rainbow of colours. HOWEVER, the machine explodes and every helper – chick, duck, lamb and bunny nearby at the time turned a GLORIOUS PINK. With all fur, wool and feathers now pink they decide that they should all deliver the eggs together. As the Easter bunny said, ‘I don’t need to do everything all by myself. Even Santa has help from his magical elves!’
So, all around the world they hopped, skipped, and flew, hiding pink eggs, a cheerful pink crew. Through this experience they learned that mistakes can sometimes lead to good ends.
The Easter Bunny was happy and said, “This Easter was great! I felt like a queen. Next year, I reckon, we do it … in GREEN!
This is another wonderful story with a lesson which children should enjoy.
