Vale Richard Tutin
One of our valued and respected reviewers – Richard Tutin – passed away suddenly on 1 January 2026. Although he had been battling a serious health condition for some time, his death was unexpected.
Richard had been a reviewer with QRC for about five years and in that time reviewed over 70 books. His interests were broad – he enjoyed reading and reviewing books about sports [especially cricket], sporting fields, fishing, cars and music. But there was a serious side to Richard as well. He reviewed an eclectic range of non-fiction – from the history of Budapest to the history of Ancient Egypt to the invention of papyrus – and many others as well.
Not only was Richard a personal friend but he was a committed and talented reviewer. I always enjoyed reading his reviews for their interest and scholarship. Although he always sent his reviews to me with the enjoinder to ‘make any amendments I saw fit’, there were never any to be made. Richard and his reviews will be missed greatly.
Below is a broad-ranging sample of Richard’s reviews:
Winston Churchill by Tariq Ali – Queensland Reviewers Collective
Cars We Used to Drive by Don Loffler – Queensland Reviewers Collective
Past Mistakes by David Mountain – Queensland Reviewers Collective
Long Players by Tom Gatti [editor] – Queensland Reviewers Collective
